We are seeking a motivated and creative Senior Product Designer with solid skills in physical product design while also appreciating the importance of and being keen to explore the digiphysical space. The ideal candidate will have a robust portfolio that demonstrates their passion for design and a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Role and Responsibilities
As a Senior Product Designer, you will:
- Lead Cross-Disciplinary Design Projects: Oversee the entire design process from research and ideation to prototyping and final execution for both physical and digital products, ensuring innovative and user-centric solutions.
- User-Centered Approach: Conduct user research to gain insights into customer needs and pain points, translating them into practical, aesthetically pleasing, and functional design solutions across platforms.
- Collaboration Across Teams: Work closely with engineers, digital designers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of design intents, technical requirements, and production/development feasibility.
- Prototyping & Validation: Develop physical prototypes and digital mockups, employing both qualitative and quantitative methods to test and validate designs, refining features based on feedback. ’
- Technical expertise: Demonstrate proficiency in materials selection, manufacturing techniques (such as injection molding, metals and 3D printing), and understanding of production constraints to ensure designs are not only innovative but also feasible and cost-effective.
- Client Interaction: Engage with clients to understand their goals, present concepts, manage expectations, and incorporate feedback throughout the design process.
- Mentorship & Development: Guide and mentor junior designers, fostering an environment of growth through technical expertise and design critiques.
- Sustainability Integration: Design with a focus on sustainability, considering environmental impacts while maintaining the balance of aesthetics and functionality.
- Trend and Technology Awareness: Stay abreast of the latest design trends, technological innovations, and industry developments, ensuring our designs remain competitive and forward-thinking.
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Proven Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in hybrid product design (digiphysical), ideally within a consultancy or fast-paced, multi-client environment.
- Design Tools Proficiency: Expert in industry-standard design software such as SolidWorks, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, and digital design tools (e.g., Sketch, Figma).
- Prototyping Skills: Experience in both physical and digital prototyping techniques.
- User-Centered Design Expertise: Strong ability to translate user research and insights into effective design solutions that enhance user experience.
- Communication & Presentation: Excellent verbal and visual communication skills, capable of articulating design concepts and strategies to various audiences.
- Project Management Skills: Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating strong time management and organizational skills.
- Leadership Qualities: Experience mentoring teams and promoting a collaborative and innovative design environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience in sectors like consumer electronics, life-science, automotive, or industrial design.
- Familiarity with sustainability principles in design (e.g., eco-friendly materials, circular design).
- Exposure to agile methodologies or similar collaborative processes.
- Knowledge of IoT, smart products, or wearable technology design.
