Om utbildningen

This programme offers students the possibility of extending a BA degree (or equivalent) from a foreign university to a Swedish degree on Master‘s level within English literature. The programme, which comprises obligatory and optional courses, is intended to give students the academic basis needed for research in English at doctoral level. To this end the programme develops an advanced ability in the English language, advanced skills in research methodology, and an in-depth knowledge of English literature and an awareness of the theory and practice of English literature.

The programme is available for both campus and distance students. It is offered at both full-time and part-time study-rate. For distance students all seminars take place online (no physical meetings). The programme, both campus and netbased, consists of obligatory seminars at specific times.

Degree Awarded Filosofie magisterexamen, huvudområdet: engelskspråkig litteratur (Master of Arts (60 Credits), Main Field of Study: Literature in English).

Career Opportunities As well as subject-specific knowledge about literature in English, the study of literature trains students in literacy and communication skills, including the ability to present a sustained and persuasive argument, as well as acquiring skills in critical reasoning and analysis. A wide range of career opportunities are open, these include: teaching; publishing; editing; writing; research; careers in television, journalism and film; translating; the diplomatic corps, civil service, as well as business and industry.

Job Market Outlook The job market outlook for students with a Masters degree in literature varies. We have former students that went on to PhD programmes in literature, students that work as teachers at upper secondary schools and students that have gone into publishing and translating.
